WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE ORGANIC FOR YOUR CHILD

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE ORGANIC FOR YOUR CHILD

When picking out a pair of leggings or a cute dress for your little one, the style and fit are the obvious attributes you focus on. But the materials that our clothes are made from are important too. Most of us know about the health benefits of buying organic food, but what about organic materials in fashion?

Organic cotton is grown in a way that uses methods and materials that lessen the impact on our environment. Organic cotton not only uses far less water, but big efforts are made to use growing systems that maintain and replenish soil fertility, and build biologically diverse agriculture.

The main benefit of organic materials, however, is that the crops are not treated with pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). These toxins are harmful for farmers and workers, for us as consumers, and for wildlife eco-systems.

Baby skin is more delicate and sensitive. Babies have a higher ratio of skin surface area to body volume, and their skin is thinner than adults’ too. This means that babies are more open to absorbing harmful additives and synthetic chemicals used on large-scale commercially produced fabrics.

All fabrics used for our clothes are certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), meaning they are made with strict toxic regulations, GM-free, and using organic cotton. Also, farmers and workers get a fair deal, and factory conditions are better. We want our products to be ethical and sustainable.

When you choose to buy something from Indie June you not only get the best quality clothes for your little ones, you also support a small business, a creative process, and you are being a little nicer to mother earth.
